About Global Day of PrayerIn 2000, a small group of believers gathered in Cape Town, South Africa to pray for their nation, and God gave them a vision of Africa united in prayer. In March 2001, 45,000 Christians gathered in a stadium in Cape Town for a Day of Repentance and Prayer. In the next year, the vision spread to other cities and towns of South Africa. At a Summit in September 2002, leaders of 9 African Countries agreed on the vision "Africa for Christ". In 2004, 22 million believers in 56 Africa Nations celebrated the Africa Day of Prayer. Earlier, the International Prayer Council met in Cape Town and agreed to network a Global Day of Repentance and Prayer on Pentecost Sunday, May 15, 2005. On 15 May 2005, history was made when on this Pentecost Sunday, more than 200 million Christians from 156 nations of the world united for the first ever Global Day of Prayer. In the months following this great Global Day Of Prayer. Christians were overwhelmed by the testimonies of God's Powerful work in answer to these prayers. And in 2006 and 2007, more than 250 million believers from 196 and 203 nations, respectively, again joined in repentance and prayer on the second and third Global Day of Prayer.
